Who was Stachanov?
Aleksej Grigorjevitsj Stachanov  (1906-1977) was a soviet mine worker, regarded a communist hero due to the enormous amount of work he was capable of doing. In 1935, the story tells, Stachanov took up a course in mining. Less than a year later it was reported that he had mined a record 102 tonnes of coal in 5 hours and 45 minutes -14 times his quota. Since then he has become a global symbol for hard work and dedication.
